DESCRIPTION

This 1-hour performance-based live webinar is designed for medical interpreters and translators who support patients undergoing treatment for neurological conditions. These often require complex medication regimens, ranging from anticonvulsants and antiepileptics to treatments for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. This session will guide language professionals through the terminology and communication challenges associated with neurological medications, including their mechanisms, dosage scheduling, common uses, and potential side effects. Learners will have the chance to put concepts into practice through interpreting exercises built around real patient stories.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Marisa Rueda Will, CHI-Spanish is a CCHI Commissioner who has been practicing as a healthcare interpreter since 2006. She spent twenty years at Mayo Clinic, where she built her expertise in high-stakes medical interpreting and patient-centered communication. She became a Certified Healthcare Interpreter-Spanish in 2012 and a licensed interpreter trainer through Cross-Cultural Communications in 2017. She has delivered interpreter training workshops for NCIHC, CHIA, and ATA and serves on the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care Webinars Work Group.

She is the founder of Tica Interpreter Training and Translations, where she trains medical interpreters using real-life patient experiences, and continues to practice as a freelance interpreter supporting patient care in her local community. Marisa is currently pursuing her Master’s in Interpreting Studies at Western Oregon University.
